Our Community Involvement

Over this past year we have taken part in several community events as well as continued our fund raising efforts for the Campaign to End Hunger in Maine. Also on a monthly basis 2 staff members serve dinner at Manna Ministries.

Our main "in-house" fund raising focus is on the Campaign to End Hunger in Maine. Throughout the year we display items for sale at the credit union such as cookbooks, magnets, candles, air fresheners, candy bars, and chips. In addition to these sale items, we have an annual drawing for a Valentine's Day box of chocolates, a Back to School backpack filled with school necessities, and a Thanksgiving Day basket filled with a complete turkey day dinner. The money we raise as well as monies raised by other Maine Credit Unions, is added together each year. In 2009 credit unions in Maine raised a total of $375,924.  At the special "Thaw to End Hunger" Results ceremony we came in 3rd in per member contributions. This year we sent in a total of $2949.08.   Each credit union chooses which organizations it will donate to. In the past we have given to the Good Shepard Food Bank, Manna Industries, The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, the Hampden Food Cupboard, and the Shaw House.

Another of our major fund raising effort is for Children's Miracle Network (CMN). Over the past several years in May, the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions has held an auction and raffle sale for CMN. This past June the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions presented a check to CMN for over $22,000!
