Ending Hunger Campaign
Ending Hunger Walking Tour:
Karen is giving Brenda Davis, the Executive Director of Cross Roads Ministries, a check for our contribution, and joining them is Seth Poplaski, the Young & Free Maine Spokesperson. This is the 10th Annual Maine Credit Unions' Ending Hunger Walking Tour, which began on Thursday, Oct 27th at Penobscot County Federal Credit Union in Old Town and ended on Wednesday, November 30th in Hampden.
Our main "in-house" fund raising focus is to the Campaign to End Hunger in Maine. Throughout the year we display items for sale at the credit union such as cookbooks, magnets, candy bars, and chips. In addition to these sale items, we have an annual drawing for a Valentine's Day box of chocolates, a Back to School backpack filled with school necessities, and a Thanksgiving Day basket filled with a complete turkey day dinner. The money we raise as well as monies raised by other Maine Credit Unions, is added together each year.
The totals are in: In 2011 credit unions in Maine raised a total of $446,930. Our credit union placed 6th in per member contributions. Changing Seasons FCU had a total contribution to the campaign of $3,668!! Each credit union chooses which organizations it will donate to. In the past we have given to the Good Shepard Food Bank, Manna Industries, The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, the Hampden Food Cupboard, and the Shaw House.
In 2011, thanks to Jim Bair/Black Bair Limo Service, we were able to provide a fantastic evening for one lucky winner to our "Toby Keith and Me" ticket raffle. Members were able to take a chance on a drawing to win two tickets to Toby Keith at the Waterfront Concert Series, a dinner at Olive garden, a basket of goodies, and a limo ride for a few hours before the concert. All money earned from this raffle went directly to the Campaign to End Hunger in Maine. Our total money raised was $1024.00-by far our best fund raising efforts yet. Below is a picture of the winner, Steve Jackson and his family, along with Jim Bair:
