Name Change
Our birth name is very important to us even though sometimes we have to “grow into it". In time our name becomes one that others can’t imagine differently and begins to reflect who we are. Some of us change our name to reflect who we are. Some of us change our name to reflect a new identity, such as when we get married or work in the entertainment business.
Names are similar in the business world. Familiar names work great as long as it continues to show what the company represents. Over the past few years, the credit union’s name has become on that does not truly show who we are.
As Bangor Hydro Electric Company down-sized several years ago, our potential for new membership got smaller and smaller. In time we opened our membership to businesses in close proximity to our office on Broad Street in Bangor. Unfortunately we did not have full marketing access to the employees of each of the businesses as we had with Bangor Hydro employees over the years. We found that we would have one or two employees open an account with us, but the majority of employees did not.
In 2006, almost one year after a request to our federal agency, NCUA, our field of membership opened to Bangor and approximately 25 towns surrounding the city. Since then, 99% of new members have come from these towns. Bangor Hydro employees and family members remain the backbone of our credit union, supporting us with checking and savings accounts, loans, clubs and certificates. Their loyalty has been a constant for us since 1966 when we became a credit union. However as more and more new people open accounts with us, we realize that we need to reflect the identity of all our membership.
In looking over the past few years we have experienced many changes. Our field of membership now includes the towns surrounding Bangor and we have a beautiful new facility. Our new Mission Statement reflects the tie we have with individual members-“Building Strong Financial Futures….One Member at a Time.”
All of this was taken into consideration when we ultimately agreed upon Changing Seasons FCU as our new name. We want our members to know that we are here for you(just as you are for us) in all the seasons of your life, from birth to seniors, through all types of economic conditions and through many marvelous updates in technology that we continue to introduce to our members.
